OK,
With AlphaBios and ARC based console, you need to load "milo" to get
a Linux kernel to run. This is because there is no PAL code present in
those console environments, Milo creates a environment based on a developers
kit release of generic SRM palcode for the Aphas which allow the linux
kernel to execute on the ALpha Platform.
With SRM "UNIX" console selected, the required pal code is present
in the console, so milo is not needed. The SRM pal code is proprietary, and
is constantly updated to include new platform support and features.
Thats it simply put.. Stick with SRM unless you have an Adaptec disk
controller you want to boot from, however, the next SRM release will add
support the Adaptec.
Ummm.. the current SRMs that Im using (5.4 and aboce) have adaptec
support, at least for
the ultra/wide controllers (non ultra-2 that is)
